The Ophthalmology Service at the Koret School of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a four-year residency in veterinary ophthalmology within its ECVO-approved Residency Training Programme.

The programme is primarily clinical and is designed to provide comprehensive clinical, surgical, and academic training in veterinary ophthalmology, while also incorporating a structured research component. This research component may be integrated into a Master's graduate programme. The programme prepares the resident for the ECVO credentialing and board-certification process.

 

Training programme

The resident will be based at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital in Beit Dagan, centrally located near Tel Aviv and Rehovot, and will become an integral member of the Ophthalmology Service. Training will include:

• Diagnosis and management of a broad range of medical and surgical ophthalmic diseases

• Progressive responsibility for clinical cases and participation in the ophthalmology emergency service

• Structured clinical rounds, journal clubs, seminars, case discussions, and surgical training

• Access to advanced ophthalmic imaging and microsurgical equipment, including phacoemulsification systems, ophthalmic lasers, electroretinography (ERG), ocular ultrasonography, and other relevant diagnostic and surgical technologies

• Participation in the clinical and didactic teaching of veterinary students

• Collaboration with specialists from other disciplines within the Veterinary Teaching Hospital

• Completion of a supervised research component, potentially integrated into a Master's graduate programme, with scientific work prepared for presentation and publication

• Opportunities to participate in the ECVO Residents’ Forum, relevant ophthalmology courses, including the Basic Science Course, and national and international scientific meetings

 

The programme offers a strong environment for clinical and translational research, with opportunities to participate in a broad range of ongoing projects across veterinary and comparative ophthalmology.

 

The resident will be mentored by:

• Prof. Ron Ofri, DVM, PhD, DECVO

• Dr. Lionel Sebbag, DVM, PhD, DACVO (ECVO affiliate)

• Dr. Oren Pe’er, DVM, DAiCVO (ECVO eligible)

 

Applicants should:

• Hold a veterinary degree or equivalent qualification

• Demonstrate a strong commitment to veterinary ophthalmology

• Possess excellent clinical, communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills

• Be proficient in spoken and written English

• Be interested in clinical research, scientific writing, and teaching

 

In accordance with ECVO requirements, applicants must have broad training and experience in clinical veterinary medicine, surgery, and supporting disciplines, obtained through either:

• A rotating internship of at least one year; or

• At least two years of post-DVM private-practice experience or equivalent training

The internship or equivalent experience must be approved by the ECVO Credentials Committee before formal submission of the Residency Training Programme application.

 

International applicants are welcome. Hebrew proficiency is advantageous for day-to-day clinical communication but is not required for application or acceptance into the programme.

The School will assist the successful candidate in applying for the appropriate visa and work authorisation and in completing the administrative process for veterinary licensure or other authorisation required to undertake clinical duties in Israel. The appointment will remain subject to approval by the relevant authorities.

 

Appointment

This is a full-time, salaried four-year residency. The anticipated starting date is February 2027, although some flexibility may be possible for the selected candidate. Salary, benefits, and employment conditions will be communicated during the selection process.

5. Their preferred starting date and current level of English and Hebrew proficiency
